Today many people think of cycling without components from Campagnolo or Shimano would´nt work.
But in the early decades of the 19th century there were not many products in Campagnolos portfolio. Besides the great british names like British hub company, Harden and Phillips you may find on the italian side E.P. (Palladino), Fratelli Brivio, Gnutti, Gian Robert and Dürkopp, Wanderer and Opel or Weco coming from germany. All this companies were more then competitors in the very early decades of road cycling.
On the other hand Fratelli Brivio (F.B.) should have produced the first hubs for Campagnolo. Other voices deny this cooperation.
Luckily I´ve got one F.B. rear high flange double sided hub and one very early Campagnolo high flange hub. Obviously there are not many differences between these two.
Anybody more familiar with the history of Campagnolo and F.B.? Your comment and tipps are highly appreciated.
Your F.B. hub has been modified to allow easy replacement of broken spokes on the used side
ReplyDeleteThe locknuts on FB hubs bear a number which shows year of manufacture, the first I believe is 53 which means 1953

Thans for your coments. But F.B. should ahve started back in the 30´s. Gloria catalog from 1939 points out that hubs on Garibaldina Corsa Extra and Normale were coming from F.B.. Of course those were small flange.
