Lightweight Techno Talk: Grandi progetti, più attenzione e il grandi italiani

Well, I usually report within a post of about a single racing bike, try to briefly review its and its brands history, compile the details of the setup and close the post with some pictures of the object.

It will be different today.

I have been looking for a Bianchi from the 50s for a long time, but I could not find any frame in the right size or condition. With a Stelbel it was quite similar, since I wanted the Stelbel to have its essential features such as the unique saddle clamp or fork crown.

However and finally I found what I was looking for with frames in the need of a appropriate restoration.

Unfortunately the 50s Bianchi Campione del Mondo was sand blasted by the previous owner; so it´s in a need for re-chroming, paint and decals.

When totally restored the parts the bike will be equipped with need to show and shine hardly like new also. That was the main reason for not buying the heavily used Folgore frame in Gaiole some years ago because a Campagnolo Cambio Cosa (a due stecchi) won´t be found that easy in NOS condition; but an early Gran Sport and an Universal BREV 453949 brake set should´nt be that complicated to be found in reasonable condition.

The Stelbel comes in very battered shape showing significant damage to chrome and paint what makes it a restoration project with re-chrome and re-paint also.

But see yourself

Of course, a good restoration begins with research, digging through contemporary material, newspapers and catalogs. Looking for and collecting spare parts will start afterwards.

Nevertheless, even if the color for the Bianchi seems to be obvious, it is still not an easy task; here the right color nuance between the Milan sky in the morning, at noon, in fog and in the evening still needs to be found, but even great scientists and explorer like Magelan, Leonardo, Johann Maria Farina and Eugene Barsanti before me could´nt achieve this unreachable goal.

Stay tuned!
